Last month I made the contest too hard, discouraging some folks. So this month it’s MUCH easier!
All you have to do to enter is leave me a comment, telling me what’s delighting you this spring. Choose your sweetie, the weather, your budding garden, our new President, anything! Give me a bit of insight into your choice, and your name will be entered into a random drawing.
You can certainly leave me more than one comment, but your name will only be entered into the drawing once.
I’ll collect all the commenters’ names on May 25, put them into a hat (ok, it’ll probably be a bowl, or a basket, or a vase, but it’ll work just the same) and pull the winner’s name. I’ll notify you (the winner) by email, and will post your first name and city.
Handmade Sterling Earrings Oh, yeah – what will you win? A pair of my handmade earrings! (If you don’t have pierced ears, we’ll work out another prize of equal value.)
So comment away!
…Jane, of Canastota, NY. Jane’s entry in April’s contest to win a free gemstone talisman earned the most points – 327! The moss agate talisman should arriver at her door within a few days.
I admit it, I learned a lot with this contest, mostly about what NOT to do again. I promise, the next contest, which will be announced soon, will be MUCH easier, and the deadline for submission MUCH closer to the contest announcement.
So watch my blog for the next contest. YOU could win next time!
When I think of healing, several things come to mind: making my aching knees feel better, improving my mental attitude, and helping to improve life in my community and in the world.
I believe that our thoughts and words make almost as much of a difference as our actions.
Put negative thoughts and intentions out there, and you’ll most likely end up in trouble. Think positively and send sincere wishes for peace and happiness to all living creatures and chances are you will reap positive rewards. If nothing else, you’ll surely be much happier, which ultimately also means much healthier.
Namaste, Shanti, Om In an attempt to encourage positive thinking and intentions toward others, I made a little pin. Wear it and you’ll be expressing well wishes everywhere you go. Some people will know instantly what the three words mean, others will have to ask, giving you an opportunity to share something positive with a stranger.
Shanti is easy – it means peace. With a variety of interpretations, my favorite translation of namaste is the light in me greets the light in you. Om, now that’s more difficult. To me, it’s almost undefinable, being the vibrational wave of everything, animate and inanimate. That’s not the most common understanding, however. Om is often used in chants as a strong spiritual or mystical symbol, and is considered to be one way to call on the divine spirit.
In addition to including the three words, the pin also includes seven colored glass beads, representing the seven chakras, or energy sources, in the body.
Whether or not you wear my pin, I encourage you to spend a few minutes each day sending positive wishes to people you know and people you don’t. Even if you don’t believe it can help, it certainly can’t hurt.
Namaste!
Being an avid gardener, early spring is absolutely, without question my favorite season. It makes me really happy to be outside in the cool weather, clean up a portion of my many gardens, and see all the tiny little noses of green and pink poking through the soil. Lots of people would look at the gardens and say that there’s nothing to see, but that’s not how I think of it. Those germs of plants become the gems of late spring and summer. Although the blossoms are indeed gorgeous and bring me lots of pleasure, the thrill of seeing the spring buds is a more personal joy – something that I enjoy just for me, not to share with others.
Moss Agate For centuries, springtime has been associated with fertility. I think that’s how the whole bunny thing came about – ya know, multiplying like rabbits. Birds and bees, salamanders and insects, everything’s in love in spring. Or at least in lust.
Moss agate is a great healing gemstone for spring. Its blend of greens and whites not only physically resemble the shades of the season, moss agate’s properties are in keeping with spring, too. Carry a moss agate talisman with you to enhance your fertility and prosperity, promote restoration and healing, and draw in abundance. Moss agate has also been used to build confidence and strength, to strengthen a connection with nature, and to help turn negative patterns in to positive ones.
Moss Agate Talisman As promised, this month I’m holding a contest. If you win, you’ll get a free healing gemstone talisman – totally free. I’ll pay for regular USPS shipping, too. In honor of spring, this month’s free talisman will be moss agate – a very earthy stone. I’ll post about the healing properties of this gemstone later in the month.
So here’s the contest. Take the two-word phrase “healing gemstone” and rearrange the letters as many ways as you can. How many words can you make out of these letters? Here are the rules:
–All words must be standard English words. (If in doubt, I’ll check them in my old American Heritage Dictionary.)
–No proper nouns or otherwise capitalized words.
–All words must be at least 3 letters long.
–Only one entry per person during the month.
–All entries must be received by noon (EDT) on Thursday, April 30, 2009.
–Please use Free Gemstone Contest in the subject line of your email.
–Please include your first name and location (city/state/country) with your submission.
The winner will be the person with the most points. How will you earn points?
–One point for every legitimate word formed.
–One EXTRA point for every word formed that’s related to gems. So, for instance, let’s say that you could make the word “quartz” out of the rearranged letters. That would earn you TWO points (one for the word, and a second for the fact that it’s gemstone related).
It obviously wouldn’t work to post your answer as a Comment, ‘cuz then everyone else would be able to see them. So instead, send me an email with your answer. If, for some reason, the link doesn’t work for you, leave me a note in the Comments and I’ll work with you to get your submission in. I’ll respond via email and let you know I got your entry, so depending on how high your spam level is set, you may want to check your junk mail to see my response. And you’ll want to get an email from me, because I’ll send a second email letting you know that you won, and will post the winner’s first name and location.
If you have any questions about the contest, please post them in comments. I’ll post responses there so everyone can learn from our dialogue.
GOOD LUCK!
