I had to wait till there was a good sunny day to snap this photo of laundry on my line for Carmi’s challenge of the week. I like this particular shot; for me it’s art imitating life. Don’t you agree? ![]() Bandana As Butterfly I am fascinated by the night sky. I’m also consistently amazed at how little I understand about it, but that’s another topic. I live far from the madding crowd, so the sky offers itself to me easily. Every August we have a meteor shower called Perseids, so named because it appears to originate in the constellation Perseus. If I knew what that constellation looked like or where in the sky it was located, it’d finding those meteors easier, but my yard offers a limited view of the sky before trees & hills block my view, so I simply pay attention to the sky I can see. Anyway, a few years ago we had a stellar event of a lifetime. The Perseids shower was remarkably active, and it was during a new moon (e.g. no moon), so the sky was dark enough to see them all. It was easy to see several shooting stars every minute for hours on end. ![]() Perseids earrings So how do you enter? Simply leave me a comment about your life this summer. Talk about whether the weather has impacted on your enjoyment of this season, or the best summer moon you ever saw, or whether you’re taking a vacation or a staycation, or just about anything that tickles your fancy. I’ll put the names into a hat, and draw the winner on August 22. You won’t have your lovely earrings in time for this year’s Perseids peak (August 12), but they’ll be fun and starry in your ears year round. If you can’t wait for the contest and MUST have the earrings, with or without their coordinating necklace, in time for the Perseids this year, contact me to purchase them. This week’s Carmi challenge is elemental. I really like this picture of the little springtime waterfall taken near my house. ![]() Gavin with old & new blankets I was SOOOO happy to get this message from mama Catilin: “The ‘new blankie’ has officially been accepted into my son’s life. He now must have both with him all the time, especially at bed time. On top of that, he seems content having only the new blankie if the old one is not around or in the wash. He even calls them both ‘Woogie,’ which is ‘old blankie’s’ name. We will continue to slowly work with him until the day comes when we can finally separate him from the old one completely.” Gavin is a beautiful little boy. He looks so happy, and I’m sure that it’s not just because he has his blankets, but because he is so well-loved by his parents, grandparents, and everyone else in his world. Making this handwoven security blanket for him has added a great deal of pleasure to my life, and I am grateful for the opportunity to add to his. After all, making others happy provides great happiness in return. If I can add to your happiness with custom weaving, just let me know! My daughter brought my grandson down to visit me this Sunday. Although I’ve visited him often enough at his house in the city, and keep up with his daily antics on his blog, it was the first time Baxter had been down to my house in the country. We were all looking forward to it. It was lots of fun to watch Baxter romp with my little dog, Red. The two of them gleefully chased each other around the yard, tromped through most of my gardens, and annoyed Magic, my aged cat. Like a typical little boy, Bax loved playing in the edge of my pond, getting wet and muddy despite the cool temperatures. This grandma wasn’t fully prepared for the visit; I didn’t have any toys! Not to worry. For most of the visit, Baxter was happy to play with whatever treasures my yard provided: sticks, leaves, and even a toad! Inside, he couldn’t get enough of an old, empty dog food bag. Ok, it’s time to tell you my secret – Baxter is a dog. A Tibetan Terrier, to be precise. He’s about 9 months old, and full of energy and inquisitiveness. B didn’t stop moving the entire time he was at my house, so I’m sure he conked out completely for the car ride home, and was probably out for the night right after eating his dinner. Here are a few pics of Baxter’s country adventure. ![]() Red & Baxter in the garden ![]() Magic's not happy ![]() Baxter buried in the bag |
