Number 3

Last night I finished weaving JJ’s wrap with the lilac weft.

I keep having ‘firsts’ with the baby wraps. This first is 3 wraps on one warp. Two of them, both for ML, are shorter than usual, with her second being especially short – she’s going to have it made into a ring sling. Since I haven’t done warps this long and the ring sling was the 3rd priority, I decided I’d weave the 2 long wraps first. That way, if I didn’t have quite enough warp for the ring sling (which might happen if I the calculations should have been different for take up or something with a warp this long), I’d at least get the two full-length wraps done.

You’re seeing the transition from JJ’s lilac weft to ML’s navy weft for the ring sling.

I’m back in Rochester all day — playing with my grandson and taking the 2nd half of that class at the weaving center — so no weaving on Tuesday.

Transition

ML to JJ's wraps

Chores and errands have kept me from weaving as much as I’d like. So much better than pain keeping me away from the loom!

Then for unknown reasons I couldn’t upload a photo for this post. It took lots of tries over a few hours to make it happen.

Anyhoo, I’ve got ML’s pale mauve wrap woven, and here I’m starting JJ’s lilac weft. I’m over halfway through JJ’s now.

Today I had a phone conversation with one of the organizers for Women’s Gifts, the show I’ll be trying for the first time this coming Saturday. She told me the majority of the items sold are under $25. Guess I should have woven even more towels.

A bit of ouchy

ML's custom wrap

I was gone all day Tuesday, playing with my grandson & daughter in the morning, taking a class at the Weaver’s Guild of Rochester in the afternoon, so no weaving progress that day.

While I was away my firewood guy was here, cutting & splitting the remaining wood to fill my basement. So on Wednesday morning instead of my morning walk I decided to deal with the firewood, especially since the forecast was for rain; I wanted to get that wood stacked in the basement before it got wet.

I ended up handling the equivalent of 4 cords of wood. I had to pick up each piece of the 2 cords that were there, toss it down the ramp into the basement, and then go into the basement and stack it. As the basement fills up the stacking has to happen more often. Toss down 200 pieces of firewood, go downstairs & stack. Repeat. And repeat. As a result, my elbow was good & sore. I believe I have bursitis in my right elbow, and all that wood handling stressed it.

So while I could thread the reed & tie the warp on to the front apron, I knew it would be a mistake to throw that shuttle on Wednesday other than for a header to make sure I had no threading errors.

Even today I couldn’t weave as much as I would have liked. I did manage to get about half of ML’s wrap woven by weaving for a short time then taking a long break. This is my hearts pattern with a pale mauve weft. The color in the photo is better than usual, but not totally accurate. Hopefully by tomorrow my elbow will be rested enough to get more done.

Longer than usual

ML & JJ's warp, bout 1

I’ve started working on the next warp for baby wraps. This warp, for ML & JJ, needs to be longer than usual. That means I have to go around my warping mill more times to get enough length. In order to do that, I have to wind fewer threads in each bout. So instead of 4 bouts of about 190 threads each, I had to wind 6 bouts of about 120 threads each. I didn’t get photos of all 6 bouts.

So I made it a point to get a shot of the entire width of the warp after I got the heddles threaded.

Double the fun

For reasons that are a bit complicated, my darling grandson had not one, but two homemade Halloween costumes this year.

The first was whipped up in just a few hours…he was a self-named super hero.

Super R to the rescue

The more complex costume took weeks of planning and many hours to actually make…paper mache, paint, and lots of fitting needed to be a credible Mike Wazowski (from Monsters, Inc. for those of you without young children).

Pretty impressive, huh? His mom’s a genius. Of course, she’s my daughter. 😉
