Handwoven Scarves - Wools and Blends

There's nothing like natural fibers. Wool scarves will keep you warm, wick away moisture, dry quickly when washed, and gain in beauty as the years go by. A handwoven wool scarf will demonstrate your commitment to the environment, since it's an all-natural product that is sustainably harvested and completely renewable. To make it even better, hand-dyed yarns predominate in my handwoven wool scarves; some are dyed with all natural materials, and some are even hand-spun! Demonstrate your style while you're eco-friendly with these lovely wool scarves.

My wool scarves are finished with a classic, simple knotted fringe.

About Wools

A completely natural fiber, wool is made from the fleece or hair of an assortment of animals. Most people know about wool made from a sheep's fleece, but did you know that mohair comes from goats and angora from rabbits? Whether from sheep or alpaca, goat or rabbit, wool by any other name would be just as lovely.

Gathering wool does not harm the animals at all. Goats and rabbits are brushed or combed to remove their excess fur as they are shedding. Sheep and alpaca are sheared, generally once per year in the late spring or early summer, to remove their thick, heavy coats. Doing so helps the animals stay cooler during the hot summer months, as well as providing us with their bountiful fleece. The fleece is washed, combed, and spun into yarn, then dyed and woven (or knit) into garments.

Hand wash your wool scarf gently and dry it flat. Automatic washers and dryers will dramatically change the size, shape, and feel of these all-natural beauties, probably not in a way you'd like. You can dry clean it if you prefer.
